Deer Gustav

Isn't he simply adorable? I have no idea how I came up with the idea to draw a deer in a pullover. Anyway, I was not sure if I would be able to draw it. Every minute I have I use for drawing patterns. Therefore, I never really draw anything else. No objects, no landscapes, no humans and mostly also not animals. I'm not really confident either in my drawing skills then because I simply don't have the practice. Especially, after I finished the sketch I felt like that it is not going to work. After hours drawing on it, I think that is so far my best drawing I ever did and many people agree to that.
Gustav was named randomly by my friend Julie (we always draw together). The original was in the size of A3 but I cut it down to 30x40 cm to fit into the frame. The whole drawing was made with Faber Castell Polychromos pencils (so far the best ones I ever had). I also used a white gel pen and Pigma Micron pens by Sakura of America for highlighting. Surprisingly, I spend almost the equal amount of time on the deer and the pullover. The deer maybe around 7 hours in total and the pullover around 5 but I'm not totally sure anymore.
I tried the first time since years to film the whole process and uploaded for you on YouTube if you are interested in watching it. I really have to figure out a better way of filming. I tried it first with my Canon camera but it doesn't have a time lapse function. It's using up the battery really fast and my storage too. Editing afterwards is time consuming and complicated. I could use my iPad, which works great, but I didn't find the right way to place it yet. Maybe it will be better with the next video.
Anyway, I kind of want to announce that I will focus more on drawings like that in the future. I already started a seal drawing which turned out pretty cute. I just don't feel like drawing patterns right now since my interest is so huge in drawing animals. Furthermore, the next pattern drawings will be kind of huge projects so until you see them it will take a while.
By the way, if you like Gustav as much as I do, you should check out my Etsy shop where you find postcards, folded cards and also prints of him.
